Georgia plans to transform its Foreign Ministry into a European styled agency, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Pandzhikidze said at a diplomatic event in Tbilisi today.
"I must transform the ministry into a Western styled institution, as the Foreign Ministry is the coordinating link in relations amongst other ministries and foreigners," she said. "This is a difficult task."
According to her, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) is providing financial support to the ministry on the matter.
"We have studied the structures of MFAs in Western countries," she added. "These are several European countries, but we want to take into account the ways of the big countries. We have a scheme. According to it, the Ministry must develop, but it has to be finalized. If this reform is carried out in our ministry, it is not ruled out that it will be held in other ministries too."
