False reports of terrorism in Georgia will be punished with a fine, correctional labor and imprisonment for up to two years, or imprisonment from two to five years. In this case, if this action is carried out under aggravated circumstances, the sanction will be imprisonment for five to seven years.
It is planned to make these changes to the Criminal Code. They were inspired by a recent wave of false bomb threats.
The volume of administrative responsibility for misuse of "112" was also set. In connection with this, a new article was added to the Code of Administrative Offenses. The use of "112" in order to insult the person who receives the message, or for other insulting statements, systematic misuse will lead to a warning or a fine of 300 lari ($1= 1.66 lari).
The repeat of this act within a year will be punished with a fine of 400 lari. In addition, use of "112" for false calls in order to demand urgent help which is followed by the arrival of relevant emergency service at the scene will be punished with a fine of 500 lari. A repeat of the act during a year will be punished with a fine of 1,000 lari or imprisonment for 15 days.
The parliament is viewing the bill in an accelerated order.
