At least 22 presidential candidates have been registered in Georgia. The Georgian Central Election Commission said on Monday that the following candidates, representatives of political parties were registered.
They are as follows: Shalva Natelashvili (Labour Party of Georgia), Sergo Dzhavahidze (For a Fair Georgia), Giorgi Margvelashvili (Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia), Nino Burjanadze (Democratic Movement - United Georgia), David Bakradze (United National Movement),Georgi Targamadze (Christian-Democratic Movement), Koba Davitashvili (Party of the People), Zurab Kharatishvili (European Democrats of Georgia), Teimuraz Zhvania (Christian-Democratic People's Party) and Akaki Asatiani (Union of Georgian Traditionalists).
The candidates nominated by initiative groups were also registered. They are Mikheil Saluashvili, Nestan Kirtadze, George Liluashvili, Levan Chachua, Avtandil Margiani, Nugzar Avaliani, George Chikhladze Teimuraz Bobokhidze, Nino Chanishvili, Kartlos Garibashvili, Tamaz Bibiluri and Mamuka Chokhonelidze.
In total, 54 applications from those interested in running for president were received by the CEC. Political parties nominated 12 candidates and others were nominated by initiative groups.
The CEC refused to register 29 candidates for president.
Final registration date is September 27. The electoral law allows presidential candidates to withdraw from the elections no later than October 17.
The Georgian presidential election will be held on October 27.
