Natural disasters are still continuing in the mountainous region of Svaneti (Western Georgia), in the Mestia district. Rain and snow has cut off the village of Adishi from the outside world, roads in Zemo and Kvemo Verdi are damaged and there is an avalanche situation in Lahamura.
"Lahamura is an avalanche zone. A temporary bridge will be built there. Millions of cubic meters of soil moved. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do. It is necessary to evacuate residents of the village or to conduct appropriate activities in order to save these people.
"Regarding Khaishi, a project on a bridge construction has been developed. As a result of rain, the access roads to the villages of Zemo and Kvemo are damaged. The Ministry of Regional development and Infrastructure has allocated 291,000 lari to restore them," head of the municipality of Mestia Kapiton Zhorzholiani said.
According to him, Adishi village is cut off from the outside world. Allocated funds should be directed to clear the road.
The commission on assessment of damage caused by disasters is working in villages of Ushguli, Tsvirmishi, Kala, Pari and in those areas where the disaster has destroyed the entire crop. In Mestia district it was raining all day on Sunday as well, but on Monday morning it began snowing. Special equipment is working on the roads.
The amount of damage caused by the natural disaster to the municipality will be known tomorrow. All night long it was snowing in Becho. It is continuing today as well.
"It's wet snow that breaks down and destroys everything. We have no problems on the road. We are calculating the damage and working 24 hours a day. We have a catastrophic situation with corn, hay and lobio," the official for Rezo village Khorguani said.
