On Monday the chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili received the speaker of the National Assembly of Suriname Jennifer Simons.
The sides discussed relations between the two countries.
According to David Usupashvili, parliaments of the two countries will continue to cooperate closely.
"On behalf of the Georgian Parliament I would like to welcome our guests from far Suriname - a delegation headed by the speaker of the parliament Jennifer Simons . This is the first exchange visit between the two parliaments. We had an opportunity to discuss with the colleagues many important issues, such as cooperation in the international arena and enhancement of cultural, political and economic ties between our countries. We have multilateral interest in the countries of South America and the Caribbean, we have to find new opportunities for our citizens so that they could travel anywhere in the world, whether it is tourist or business visits. I'm glad that Suriname youth get educated in Georgia. During the meeting we discussed the prospects of deepening such contacts," Usupashvili said.
For her part, Jennifer Simons stressed that Suriname and Georgia have much in common .
"When we got familiar with your country more closely than it is transmitted in the international news, we have found that we have a lot in common. For example the fact that both countries are not as large in size. In comparison with Georgia, our country is smaller in area and its population is less - only half a million and as much outside of Suriname.
Nevertheless, both countries can offer a lot to the world. We also find common point at least in geographical location. Georgia is situated at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, and at the same time it is close to North Africa. Suriname is located in the Caribbean and at the same time one of the countries of South America. Consequently, in this regard we may emphasize our closeness," Jennifer Simons said.
At the end of the briefing David Usupashvili handed a symbolic gift to the guest.
