Israel does not intend to intervene on the issue of the extradition of Georgia's former Defence Minister David Kezerashvili from France to Georgia, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Zeev Elkin said during his visit to Georgia on Thursday.

"This is a matter for French and Georgian justice and does not damage Israel's judicial system," he stressed, saying that the issue of extradition of Kezerashvili is to be decided by the French and Georgian courts.

Georgian former Defence Minister David Kezerahvili who was detained in France and who has Georgian and Israeli citizenships asked the French court to release him from detention for the period of reviewing the procedure of extradition to his homeland.

The relevant request was submitted by Kezerashvili's lawyers. It will be reviewed by the city court of Aix-en-Provence on October 31.

The Georgian authorities accuse the former Defence Minister of embezzling $12 million from the state budget.
