Georgia’s official delegation won’t go to Olympics in Sochi

Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec.2
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgia's official delegation will not go the Olympics in Sochi, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said in his interview to RT TV company on Dec.2.

"The government members will not go to Sochi. Athletes and the leadership of the National Olympic Committee will go there," he said.

Georgian National Olympic Committee adopted a decision in May on participation of Georgian athletes in 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
