Taking into account current relations with Russia, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze does not believe that Russia can take aggressive actions against Georgia.

Russia is unlikely to put pressure on Georgia over the signing of an agreement with the EU, Panjikidze said before flying to the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels on Tuesday.

"Georgia has chosen its way of development and I do not think that Russia will take actions aimed at disrupting the signing of the agreement with the EU," she said.

Georgia and Russia are holding fruitful negotiations.

"We stand for changes in our relations and I think that Russia is unlikely to exacerbate them," she said.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military. Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
