Former Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, considers it possible to establish the relations with Russia in parallel with accession to the EU, the former prime minister said on Feb.4 at a press conference in Tbilisi.

Georgia needs to establish relations with Russia on a positive basis and the country's government is taking the 'right steps' in this direction, according to Ivanishvili.

"One of the steps in establishing the relations is the participation at the Sochi Olympics and our team must participate. Ii welcome the authorities' activities," the former prime minister said.

The Olympic Games in Sochi will open on Feb.7.

The Georgian delegation will go to the Sochi Olympics in two groups, the Georgian Olympic Committee earlier told Trend. The athletes and the main part of the delegation will leave for Sochi on Feb.6.

In total, four Georgian sports athletes will participate at the Olympic Games in Sochi. They are mountain skiers Nino Tsiklauri, Jason Abramishvili, Alexi Benianidze and figure skater Elena Gedevanishvili, who will arrive in Sochi on February 14 from Canada. Nino Tsiklauri will carry the flag at the opening ceremony.
