The trade turnover between Georgia and the EU countries amounted to $ 173 million in January 2014, or four percent less than in the same period of 2013, the Georgian National Statistics Service told Trend on Feb. 24.

Georgia's exports for the period amounted to $46 million, a 15 percent growth, while imports stood at $127 million, a nine percent drop, according to the report.

The EU countries' share in Georgia's foreign trade turnover in January 2014 amounted to 23 percent (27 percent in January 2013), including exports at 20 percent where the figure remained unchanged and imports at 24 percent (30 percent in January 2013).

Some 26 percent of Georgia's trade deficit (37 percent in January 2013) fell to EU countries during this period.
