Tbilisi, Georgia, Feb. 24

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on February 24 in response to recent events in Ukraine.

Georgian side welcomed the steps taken to normalize the situation in Ukraine, according to the statement.

"Georgian Foreign Ministry hopes that the political crisis will be overcome taking into account the territorial integrity and sovereignty principle, as well as rule of law, strong will and efforts of the Ukrainian people and with the support of international community; all corresponding effective reforms will be implemented in line with Ukrainian people's legitimate democratic and European aspirations and Ukraine will take its rightful place in the great European family," according to the statement.

The ministry once again expressed its solidarity with the Ukrainian people and paid respects and support to the families of killed and injured people.

Georgian foreign ministry confirmed its readiness to continue close partnership cooperation with this traditionally friendly country both in bilateral and multilateral formats, including within the framework of the EU's Eastern Partnership program.
