On March 17, Georgian Defense Minister, Irakli Alasania and Afghan Foreign Minister, Zarar Ahmad Osmani discussed the prospects of further cooperation between Georgia and Afghanistan in the defense sector, Georgian Defence Ministry said.

"It is planned soon to sign a 'Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Defense Sector' between the Georgian and Afghan defense ministries," according to the message.

Here the matter also rests in economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting discussed Georgia's participation in the "Strong support" mission in Afghanistan after 2014 and the process of transferring responsibility to local Afghan forces.

Minister Alasania reiterated the readiness of the Georgian government to support the Afghan government in implementation of the security reforms and offered to hold training of Afghan soldiers.

Afghan delegation headed by the Foreign Minister Osmani is in Georgia on a two-day official visit.

The meetings with Georgian president, prime minister and foreign minister are also scheduled to be held during the visit.
