No intentions to pressure Georgia by Russia regarding signing of EU association agreement

Tbilisi, Georgia, April 17
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Russia doesn't intend to put pressure on Georgia regarding the signing of the association agreement with EU by this country, Georgian Prime Minister's Special Representative, Zurab Abashidze said on April 17, on the air of the Rustavi-2 TV channel. He was commenting on the results of his meeting with Russia's First Deputy Foreign Minister, Grigory Karasin in Prague.

"My colleague Grigory Karasin explicitly said that Russia will not put pressure on Georgia regarding its signing the association agreement with EU and this is of great significance," Abashidze said.

The topic related to signing the association agreement was touched upon at the initiative of Karasin.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
