The operations are underway on the Russian-Georgian border in connection with launching the monitoring of the trade turnover in separatist regions, Georgian Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri said on April 29.

"As it is known, an agreement envisaging the international monitoring of trade turnover of Georgia's separatist regions has been signed," he added. "Russia became a WTO member according to the agreement."

The minister stressed that at this stage, the negotiations on the project details are underway with the Swiss side. The Swiss company will conduct the monitoring.

"The Russian side and the Swiss company are thoroughly working," he said. "Prime Minister's special representative on the settlement of relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze is actively involved in this process."

As for the details of the negotiation process, the minister believes that it is inexpedient to talk about this.

Georgia agreed with a compromise of the Swiss side during the talks in Geneva in 2011. It envisages the international monitoring over the goods transported through the internationally recognized border line of Georgia and Russia. Under this condition, Georgia agreed with Russia's accession to the WTO.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
