Tbilisi, Georgia, May 8

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

On May 8, Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze and representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in the country commemorated the World War II victims and laid wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Vake park.

"May 8 is the day when the entire world celebrates the victory over Nazi Germany," Panjikidze said.

The minister went on to add that Georgia brought a very great sacrifice for the peace to be created in Europe, and it is everyone's duty to commemorate the war victims and thank the veterans.

"Traditionally, the Foreign Ministry, together with the diplomatic corps, lays wreaths at the tomb of the unknown soldier and commemorates not only Georgians killed in the war, but all of its victims," Panjikidze stressed.

Georgia marks the Victory Day each year on May 9. This day is the non-working day in the country.
