By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

The North-South Gas Pipeline, which transports Russian gas to Armenia via Georgia, has been damaged following a rockfall in Georgia's Dariali Gorge.

Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) told Trend that the North-South Gas Pipeline, which has a 1200-mm thickness, suffered damage in the natural disaster.

As a result, the Russian gas transit to Armenia was suspended.

Russia and Armenia have been notified about the damage.

A group of experts have arrived at the accident site. However a part of a road near the gas pipeline was also damaged and this hinders the works on restoration of the pipeline's operation.

The local residents claim that the pipeline has been completely destroyed.
