A rock mass collapsed in Georgia's Dariali Gorge on Saturday, May 17, blocking the Terek River.

The gorge's population and people passing through it have been evacuated.

Georgian Interior Ministry told Trend that rescue operations are continuing in the Dariali Gorge. Rescuers managed to save 15 people who were trapped in a tunnel.

Two Turkish workers, trapped under rubble and mud, were rescued by locals. The local residents said the machinery could not reach the side of the rubble, where the workers were trapped.

They also said the searches are currently underway for seven missing people, including one local resident and six drivers.

The preliminary reports indicate that three Turkish nationals were killed in the natural disaster. They were working at the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. There are also three trucks under the rubble.

A special headquarter was set up under the instruction of Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili. He will soon visit the Dariali Gorge.

There is no risk of the Terek River overflowing its banks in the gorge.

Previously it was reported that the North-South Gas Pipeline was damaged following the natural disaster.
