A new riverbed was created at the site of confluence of the Devdoraki and Terek Rivers in Georgia.

This has been done as part of the disaster relief operations held in the Dariali Gorge, where a rock mass collapsed last Saturday, May 17 blocking the Terek River.

The new riverbed was created with collaborative efforts of the Emergency Situations Department of the Interior Ministry, Patrol Police Department and Georgian Regional Development and Infrastructure Ministry.

The water accumulated as a result of heavy rains and the avalanche is being released through the new riverbed and facilitates the search and rescue operations, according to a message from Georgian Roads Department.

Clearance works are underway at this stage of disaster relief operations.

Georgian Interior Ministry said that currently equipment is directly involved in clearance work at the epicenter of the natural disaster.

Georgian Interior Minister Alexander Chikaidze personally inspected the work performed.

Currently, the search, rescue and clearance operations are being conducted in the canyon of the Devdoraki River.

The search for seven people missing following the disaster is still continuing.
