Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania considers it premature to make statements on granting Georgia the Membership Action Plan of NATO (MAP).

As the minister told journalists, the most of the partner -countries of Georgia clearly expressed their position and stated that Georgia is ready for the MAP at the meeting of NATO-Georgia Commission.

These complex negotiations are likely to last until September, according to Alasania.

"I was at a meeting of NATO-Georgia Commission two days ago, on which the majority of our partners openly said that Georgia is ready for the MAP. Furthermore, NATO assessment of other candidate states, including Georgia will be appear in a week , and then formal discussions about the prospect of further enlargement of the future summit will start. All the statements - weather positive or negative are absolutely premature on this issue. Based on experience, I would like to say that these complex negotiations will continue until September," he said.
