Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili hopes that the European Union (EU) will declare the second phase of visa liberalization for the country soon.

Garibashvili made the remarks at a joint press conference with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

He underscored that the visa liberalization with the EU was among the main issues discussed at the meeting.

"We discussed various spheres of cooperation and focused on ensuring a visa-free regime with EU, which will bring concrete results for our citizens. We have already achieved significant progress in the first phase of visa liberalization and hope that the EU will declare the second phase soon," the prime minister stressed.

He pointed out that the success of the common goals of Georgia and EU depends on the security and stability in the region.

"With this regard, we appreciate the strong support of the EU to Georgia's territorial integrity," Garibashvili said.

"The agreement will even more intensify the relations between Georgia and EU. We understand that the association is a time-consuming process and requires large-scale reforms and we are ready to redouble our efforts for this purpose. We also appreciate the assistance of the EU in the process of holding reforms," Garibashvili stressed.
