The interests polling procedure within the framework of the construction project for the new multifunctional port in Anaklia (Western Georgia) will begin next week.

The decision was made by the Economic Council under the Georgian Prime Minister after completion of the Georgian Partnership Fund`s research for the selection of the best location for the port, the press-service of the Georgian Premier reported. As a result, priority was given to Anaklia, as this place has the potential to receive vessels with large cargo intensity.

"Compared to alternative locations, Anaklia`s advantage is that the berth has the prospect of expansion and development, as well as good access to deep sea canyon," the report said.

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili called important the construction of such large-scale infrastructure facility for the country.

It will brought up the transit potential of Georgia to qualitatively new level, according to the Premier.

Three months earlier, the government reported that the U.S "Conti Group" investment holding was interested in this project which has already developed "three-phase development project of the Anaklia port considering annual turnover in the amount of 100 million tonnes."
