Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze and his New Zealand counterpart Murray McCully have signed a declaration on cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

McCully has arrived in Tbilisi with a two-day visit, during which he will hold meetings with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and parliament chairman David Usupashvili.

He will also visit Georgian Rugby Federation.

"This is the first visit of New Zealand's foreign minister to Georgia. Therefore, I can safely say that this is a historical visit, as we have strong ties with New Zealand. We regard this country as the most important partner not only in the Oceania region, but also in the global scale," Panjikidze said.

She made the remarks at a joint press conference after the meeting with New Zealand's foreign minister.

McCully in turn thanked Georgia's foreign minister for the hospitality.

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and New Zealand were established on March 11, 1992.
