The incident that occurred in Baku following the football match between the teams of Neftchi (Azerbaijan) and Chihura (Georgia) was organized by provocateurs, according to Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze.

"This happened during the visit of the Azerbaijani journalists to Georgia at the invitation of the country's Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs. I'm confident that this ministry will waste no effort to convince the Azerbaijani side that neither the state nor the Georgian football team fans stand behind these provocations," she stressed.

The minister believes that this is a provocation organized by those who intend to worsen the friendly relations between the two countries.

During the football match between the Neftchi and Chihura teams in Baku on July 31, some Georgian fans attempted to stage a provocation, Azerbaijani Interior Ministry said.

Georgian fans hung a map from the tribune of Bakcell Arena stadium showing Azerbaijan's Zagatala and Gakh regions as Georgian territories. The sharp protest of the local fans to this, led to a scuffle. However, the police and the servicemen of Azerbaijan's internal troops prevented the mass clash.
