The Georgian Court of Appeals at a meeting on August 11 rejected former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili's claim on the events of May 26, 2011.

In connection with the dispersal of the rally on May 26, 2011, Vano Merabishvili, who served as Interior Minister that period, was charged under the article envisaging the liability for abuse of power.

The city court found him guilty and sentenced him to four and a half years of imprisonment.

Merabishvili may appeal against the decision in the Supreme Court.
