USS Vella Gulf of the U.S. 6th Fleet will hold joint exercises with the Georgian coast guard.

The military ship will enter the port of Batumi on Aug. 18, the U.S. Embassy in Georgia said.

USS Vella Gulf is a guided missile cruiser of the Ticonderoga class.

The Georgian-US exercises underscore the United States' efforts to deepen relations with NATO allies and partners, such as Georgia, as well as to help address common challenges, strengthen peace and stability in the Black Sea region, according to the U.S. embassy.

The embassy also said that in the activity zone of the U.S. 6th Fleet, the USS Vella Gulf plays a multi-faceted role in enhancing maritime security, participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises and supporting NATO operations in the region.
