At least three Afghan policemen have been killed and six others wounded in an attack in the southern part of the war-torn country, police officials say, Press TV reported.
Militants attacked a police checkpoint in the province of Kandahar overnight, police criminal director of Kandahar Pashton Moamand said on Monday.
Another source told the Associated Press that the attack had a higher death toll.
Eight policemen were killed and three others seriously wounded, said a local police official from the Argandab district.
He added that a group of militants attacked the checkpoint from three sides with gunfire and grenades on Monday.
Although more than 100,000 US-led troops are currently deployed in Afghanistan, there has been no sign of stability in the country.
Thousands of civilians and Afghan security forces have lost their lives in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
