An American soldier with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in south Afghanistan Monday, ISAF said in a statement, Xinhua reported.
"An ISAF service member from the United States was killed today in an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) strike in southern Afghanistan," the statement said without disclosing the exact place of the incident.
U.S. troops are mostly based in the restive Kandahar and Helmand province where Taliban militants are active.
Over two dozen ISAF soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed since the beginning of this year in the war-plagued Afghanistan.
