Ten more Taliban militants have given up militancy and defected to government in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province, 250 km north of capital Kabul on Saturday, said a spokesman for provincial administration, Xinhua reported.

"Nine Taliban fighters and their commander Qari Ghulam Hazrat handed over their rifles to police in Imam Sahib district this morning," Mahboubullah Seydi told Xinhua.

He said the former militants were active in Imam Sahib district and surrounding areas.

This is the second batch of Taliban militants to join government in Kunduz province over the past three days.

On Thursday, a Taliban group composed of five armed men defected to government in the neighboring Dasht-e- Archi district.

More than 65 militants have surrendered to government in Kunduz province over the past three weeks, according to local officials.
