The Taliban claimed responsibility for shooting down a helicopter operated by NATO-led international forces in Afghanistan on Monday, killing two on board, dpa reported.
The helicopter went down in the province of Wardak, west of Kabul, government spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told dpa. "The helicopter crashed close to a US military base in the mountainous Nerkh district."
While NATO confirmed the two dead, it said that "initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash."
Another NATO helicopter crashed during routine operations in the east of the country. No fatalities were reported, with the crew and passengers safely transported to a nearby base, NATO said.
But the Taliban also claimed responsibility for that crash, saying the "ambulance helicopter transporting injured soldiers was shot down by Taliban rockets."
Meanwhile, a roadside bomb struck a car in the north, killing three Afghan police officers and four tribal elders, police said.
The victims were in Baghlan-e-Markazi district in Baghlan province.
