A roadside bomb in northern Afghanistan Thursday killed a district governor and two of his bodyguards as Afghans celebrated their traditional New Year, dpa repoprted.
The bomb, hidden under a bridge, exploded as the district governor of Eskamish district in Takhar province was driving by, a police spokesman said.
"The bomb remotely detonated and struck Abdul Manan Hakimi's vehicle in Ali Qatan village," police spokesman Khalil Aseer said.
Two bodyguards were also injured, he said.
