OSCE Ministerial Council again not adopt political statement

The OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers did not adopt its main paper - Political statement on Dec. 2 as a result of its 17th meeting in Athens, Trend reports. The meeting participants could not come to a consensus because of disagreements on one of the main points of the draft statement - including the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe in the document.

However, the meeting decided to continue Corfu Process. Also a decision was made on date and place of the next meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council - is scheduled for December 1-2 in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office in 2010.

The OSCE Ministerial Council made a decision that the OSCE Chairman-in-Office in 2012 will be Ireland. Ministers also adopted a Declaration on the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, a decision on further expansion of the OSCE activities with regards to police, a decision to expand the OSCE's efforts for continuous integration of Roma and Sinti, etc.
