UK embassy in Yemen closed for security reasons

The British Embassy in Yemen has closed for security reasons, the Foreign Office said on Sunday, after the United States closed its embassy there in response to threats by al Qaeda, Reuters reported.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman cited "security reasons" for the embassy's closure, declining to say if any specific security threat had been made.

The U.S. embassy has instructed its Yemeni employees to stay away until further notice, the embassy and foreign diplomats said earlier on Sunday.
