Ford Mustang V8 power package

Despite the trend toward smaller and more fuel efficient cars, Ford has given a nod to performance enthusiasts in presenting at the Detroit Motor Show a Mustang with a 5-litre V8 engine with an output of 418 hp, dpa reported.

The all-new power unit of the 2011 Mustang GT has a four-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It also comes with a modified Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) for quicker steering response and less effort for low-speed parking manoeuvres.

The engine hood emphasized a more muscular form with smaller headlights, a flat roofline and wider wheel arches.

Ford also showcased a Boss 302R Mustang racing version fitted with a modified cooling system, race exhaust, rollover cage, a Brembo braking system with race-ABS and a Koni racing chassis. Ford Racing is planning to build only 50 Boss 302R versions with prices starting at 130,000 dollars.
