Shots fired at controversial mullah's flat in Norway

A man was slightly wounded early Monday when shots were fired at the Oslo apartment of a Kurdish religious leader that Norway wants to deport for security reasons, police said, DPA reported.

Police said two men were seen running from the home of Mullah Krekar, and a car was set ablaze near the scene.

Krekar has been linked to the radical Islamist organization Ansar al-Islam.

He was granted asylum in Norway in 1991, but in February 2003 he was ordered to leave Norway over violating his refugee terms and his alleged links to Ansar al-Islam.

The order was not carried out due to the security situation in Iraq.

The injured man was reported to be Krekar's son-in-law and had been hit in an arm. Initial reports said the shots were fired through a window, a police spokesman told broadcaster NRK.

The US considers Ansar al-Islam to be allied to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
