A French police officer was killed late Tuesday in a shootout near Paris with suspected members of the Basque militant group ETA, Spanish police said overnight in Madrid, dpa reported.
Three ETA suspects immediately opened fire when they were confronted by the slain officer and a second police officer.
Two of the suspects were able to flee the scene but a third was arrested, authorities said.
