Britain's former Foreign Secretary David Miliband Wednesday announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Labour party, DPA reported.
Miliband, 44, had been the favourite to succeed ex-prime minister Gordon Brown, who stepped down following the formation of a new Conservative-led government Tuesday.
A new leader is expected to be installed before the Labour party conference in September, following a contest.
