Representatives of Slovenia and NATO on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding in which they agreed to strengthen their cooperation in system development, communication oversight and intelligence, among others, reported the Slovenia news agency STA.
The memorandum was signed in Ljubljana between the Slovenian State Secretary of Defense Uros Krek and Georges D'Hollander, general manager of the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A), Xinhua reported.
Under the memorandum, Slovenia will gain access to technical information related to products developed by the NC3A and will be able to acquire these products through a simplified procedure.
Speaking at a press conference, Krek explained that technical agreements with NATO reflect the needs of individual NATO members and that nothing concrete had been discussed.
According to Krek, the majority of NC3A products are turnkey projects. Although only one Slovenian company currently meets the requirements of these NATO projects, he anticipated additional Slovenian firms would compete for them in the future.
Slovenia became a NATO member in March 2004.
