Poles started to vote Sunday morning in a tense presidential runoff pitting Bronislaw Komorowski of the ruling Civic Platform party (PO) against Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the conservative Law and Justice Party (PIS), Xinhua reported.

Poles started to vote Sunday morning in a tense presidential runoff pitting Bronislaw Komorowski of the ruling Civic Platform party (PO) against Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the conservative Law and Justice Party (PIS), Xinhua reported.

More than 30 million voters were expected to cast votes in 25,774 polling stations nationwide. Exit poll results were expected at the closing of the stations, which opened at 6 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) and were to close at 8 p.m. local time (1800 GMT).

The State Electoral Commission (PKW) said that it will announce the official results of the presidential run-off on Monday.
