Poland's new president, Bronislaw Komorowski, is a distant cousin of Belgium's Crown Princess Mathilde, palace sources in Brussels confirmed Monday, dpa reported

Mathilde, 37, is the daughter of a Polish aristocrat, Countess Anna Komorowska. Mathilde married Belgium's Crown Prince Philippe, the son of King Albert II, in 1999.

Poland's President Komorowski is a scion of the same aristocratic family, palace sources said.

However, it is not known whether Mathilde is in regular contact with her cousin in the presidential palace in Warsaw.

"That's their private business," a palace spokeswoman told the German Press Agency dpa.

Mathilde is a speech therapist and psychologist by training. She and Philippe have four children. dpa bn cb dms Authors: Ben Nimmo, Christian Boehmer
