Holders Inter Milan stunned Bayern Munich 3-2 Tuesday to secure the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to the away-goal rule, dpa reported.

Samuel Eto'o levelled Bayern's 1-0 win in the first leg already in the third minute, but the Bavarians reversed with efforts from Mario Gomez and Thomas Mueller in a first half that they dominated before their home crowd at the Allianz Arena.

Dutchman Wesley Sneijder levelled after the break and Macedonian Goran Pandev slammed a late winner that qualified the Nerazzurri and left the hosts regretting their many missed chances.

The Cameroon star scored his eighth goal in the tournament off a deep feed from Pandev to join Barcelona's Lionel Messi as top scorer on eight goals.

Gomez came close on 10 minutes as he stormed into the box past Andrea Ranocchia, but met the opposition of Julio Cesar, who bore much responsibility when the forward levelled on 21 minutes to also notch his eighth goal.

The Brazilian goalkeeper fumbled what should have been an easy save from a drive by Dutch winger Arjen Robben and allowed the lurking Gomez to tap in with a quick overhead kick.

The in-form Robben fired again centrally and Gomez made one more attempt from a tight angle before Mueller on 31 minutes beat again the Brazilian custodian from close range after Thiago Motta involuntarily set him up as he deflected a pass by Robben.

As Bayern continued their massive pressing, Julio Cesar managed to block the storming French ace Franck Ribery and was in trouble again on flick by Gomez that Ranocchia cleared as it rolled along the goal line but only after the ball bounced off Mueller's foot and against the post.

A further effort by Robben flew wide on 43 minutes as he fired from close range.

A seemingly slower second half flared up on 61 minutes when Julio Cesar deflected Gomez's volley two minutes before Sneijder's low drive stunned Thomas Kraft by his right post.

Inter had two more chances when Sneijder and Pandev fired off target, but the Macedonian was flawless when he drilled the ball under the bar after Eto'o dispossessed the dithering Brazilian Breno and squared a rolling assist.
