Italy needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome England at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev on Sunday, and now face Germany in the Euro 2012 semi-finals.
It was a well-deserved win for Italy, who dominated possession and squandered plenty of chances during regular time, most notably with Daniele De Rossi hitting the post in the 3rd minute and Mario Balotelli missing at least three good opportunities during regular time.
Italy also had an Antonio Nocerino goal deep into extra time disallowed by Portuguese referee Pedro Proenca because of offside.
