A/H1N1 flu vaccine likely to come out soon in Australia

Australian Health Minister Nicola Roxon said on Wednesday that the federal government will be keen for an earlier than expected rollout of a A/H1N1 flu vaccine if initial test results are favorable, reported Xinhua.

The vaccine is being trialled at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on 240 healthy adults and Roxon hopes the results will be available within weeks.

"We are working very closely of course on the plans for the rollout of the vaccine as soon as that becomes available," she said.

"We'll be looking at any early test results that come back from the trials to see if it's possible to make a decision to provide the vaccine at an earlier date." she added.

Roxon said to date nationally there have been 74 deaths of people who had tested positive to the A/H1N1 influenza virus.

There are 409 people in hospital with the flu virus, 121 of them in intensive care in the country currently.
