A tractor crashed head-on with a passenger jeepney -- the popular jeep-like public transport in the Philippines -- in a northern province Wednesday night, killing the jeepney driver and five passengers while wounding three others, local police said Thursday, reported Xinhua.
Superintendent Gregorio Evangelista Jr. said the tractor's driver was trying to overtake a vehicle and failed to steer away from the jeepney on the other lane. The collision occurred at around 21:40 local time (1340 GMT) in General Trias town in Cavite province, neighboring the capital region Metro Manila to the north.
Evangelista said the tractor driver was arrested and is facing charges of multiple homicide and physical injuries and damage to property, the on-line news network INQUIRER.Net reported.
