One of the world's first two cloned wolves has died for unknown reasons, a scientist at Seoul National University has said, Press TV reported.
According to Professor Shin Nam-shik, Snuwolf (Seoul National University wolf) was found dead in its cage on August 26 at Seoul Zoo.
The female wolf's body has been moved to a lab in the Veterinary Department at SNU for an autopsy, the result of which will be released in about a week.
"We can't say anything for certain until we complete the analysis of autopsy results," Shin said.
"Sudden deaths among dogs and wild animals happen as a natural course. This death must not be blown out of proportion," the professor added.
Snuwolf was cloned by a team led by Seoul National University veterinarian Lee Byung-chun in 2005.
Two female wolves -- Snuwolf and Snuwolfy -- were cloned by Scientists at Seoul National University in October 2005. Snuwolfy is still alive and healthy residing at the zoo.
