10 killed, 12 injured in Venezuela bus crash

At least ten people have lost their lives and 12 others injured in a road accident involving a passenger bus and truck in the South American state of Venezuela, Press TV reported.

Friday's fatal collision occurred near the capital, Caracas when a track smashed into a commuter bus, the local media reported.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital where some are said to be in critical condition.

"The accident occurred on the highway between Caracas and Guarenas. An intercity bus collided with a truck and overturned. Eight people died at the scene of the accident and another two died on the way to the hospital," a rescue operation authority told reporters.

"Twelve injured have been hospitalized, some of them in serious condition," the official added.

Early examination of the scene reportedly implicates the truck diver for the mishap.

South America has a large annual number of road casualties due to the region's poor road conditions, reckless and drunk driving and poorly-maintained vehicles.
