Suicide blast kills four in Pakistan (UPDATE)

A suicide blast ripped through a busy commercial district in Pakistan's main north-western city of Peshawar on Thursday, killing at least four people, officials said, DPA reported.

Six more people were injured in the explosion that took place at a police checkpoint on the city's main road, provincial Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour told reporters at the scene.

"It was a suicide bombing," Bilour said.

Peshawar has been targeted by Islamist militants frequently in recent months to avenge military operations against them in the restive region near the Afghan border.

A suicide bomber attacked the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, killing three people.
