Latest bomb attack in Pakistan kills five

A bomb blast in northwestern Pakistan has killed at least five people and wounded more than 20 others with no group claiming responsibly for the attack, Press TV reported.

The bomb was detonated near a security checkpoint on a busy road in the city of Peshawar on Thursday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far, a press TV correspondent reported.

The incident comes two days after a bomb explosion at a journalist club in the city killed three people.

The US-based Committee to Protect Journalists ranked Pakistan as the fourth-deadliest country in the world for journalists in 2009, behind the Philippines, Somalia and Iraq.

Pakistan has experienced a wave of violence over the past two years in which nearly 3,000 people have been killed in bomb attacks and other terrorist operations across the country.
