Bomb kills 2 anti-Taliban elders in NW Pakistan

A local official says a roadside bomb struck a vehicle carrying a group of anti-Taliban tribal elders in Pakistan's volatile northwest, killing two, AP reported.

Naseeb Shah says four other elders traveling in the vehicle toward the main town of Khar in the Bajaur tribal area were critically wounded by the remote-controlled device.

Shah says the group was on its way to meet with local officials when the attack occurred Sunday near Kassai, about 17 miles (28 kilometers) northeast of Khar.

The blast came two days after a suicide car bomber attacked a sports event near a meeting of tribesman who supervise an anti-Taliban militia near the South Waziristan tribal area, killing almost 100 people.
