Minor earthquake kills at least seven in south-west China

A minor earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale killed at least seven people and left one missing in the south-western province of Guizhou, the Chinese government said Monday, dpa reported.

The quake hit parts of Guanling, Zhenfeng and Zhenning counties near Guizhou's Anshun city at 5:37 pm (0937 GMT) Sunday, the China Earthquake Administration said on its website.

Local officials had reported seven dead and one missing by early Monday after the earthquake caused at least two landslides in the affected counties, the administration said.

State media quoted officials in Anshun as saying city hospitals treated at least nine injured people, two of them in serious condition.
