An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale occurred in Solomon Islands at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday Hong Kong time (2237 GMT), according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
The epicenter was initially determined to be at 6.1 degrees south latitude and 154.4 degrees east longitude, about 720 kilometers west-northwest of Hiniara, Solomon Islands, it said.
